In order to be able to host the 2012 tournament the Polish government had to commit to renovate or construct brand new stadiums and to invest in the necessary transportation infrastructure. In fact, Poland did not have a single modern, world-class stadium until just recently when the new stadium in Kielce was open end in 2006. Thanks to the Euro, stadium infrastructure will finally improve although the construction of new facilities is progressing only gradually.

Six of the eleven host cities are located in Poland; Krakow and Chorzow will only become showcases for the sports event if Uefa decides to expand the number of participating teams from currently 16 to 24.
